
Ailill Martin is an award winning Documentary Filmmaker and Cinematographer known for "Hit the Wall" (2024) and "The Good Farmer and the Failed Son" (2025).
His documentaries centre around unorthodox characters and stories from the fringes of modern society.
Themes of obsession, isolation and identity permeate much of Ailill’s work.
His films are known for their striking visuals, comedic undertones and engaging narratives.
His most recent documentary, "The Good Farmer and the Failed Son", was nominated for “best short documentary” at the Raindance Film Festival, and was one of the six projects (chosen from 2,000 entries across the UK and Ireland) selected for the Netflix Documentary Talent Fund.
His previous film, “Hit the Wall” a documentary focusing on the sport of Gaelic Handball, was also nominated for “best short documentary” at the Cork International Film Festival in 2024.
It was later acquired for TV broadcast by TG4.
Recently Ailill has been featured on Ireland AM, The Ray Darcy show, Moncreiff and the Film Ireland Podcast.
Originally from a small farm in Co.Tipperary, at the age of 19 Ailill moved to Cork City to begin working in the film industry.
He subsequently moved to Dublin to study at The National Film School where he specialised in Cinematography and Documentary Filmmaking.
Since graduating in 2023 he has worked with multiple production companies as a freelance Director and DP, across a broad spectrum of projects.
Ailill is currently working on a number of upcoming documentaries.
Chief among them is “Where the Red Dirt Flies” (working title) a feature length documentary which follows a group of Irish bull riders in the Australian Outback.
It is set to begin production in early 2026.
